New York Rangers Team Preview
The New York Rangers come into Columbus winning five straight to push their record to 8-2 in their last ten games. The Rangers have been very inconsistent this season but seem to have gotten back on track. The team has a 36-18-1 record while sitting 4th in the Metropolitan division. As it stands, New York has the first wild card playoff birth but a win Monday would bump them up to top 3 in the division standings.
The last win came in New York as the Rangers beat the Avalanche 4-2. The Rangers were trailing the game 2-1 heading into the second intermission but a three-goal third period would help them seal the win. Leading the offense was Kevin Klein who got the Rangers two first goals of the game, followed up by Rick Nash scoring what would be the game-winner. The Avalanche outshot the Rangers 34-30 but Henrik Lundqvist was spectacular kicking aside 32 saves to pick up his 26th win of the season. The starting goaltender has won the last 8 out of 9 starts and is expected to start against the Blue Jackets.
Columbus Blue Jackets Team Preview
The Columbus Blue Jackets are having one of their best seasons in the franchise but the team has hit a wall since the all-star break. The Blue Jackets hold a record of 35-14-5 good for 2nd in the Metropolitan division but are a far cry from the division lead. The Blue Jackets have lost five of their last eight but managed to pick up a win in their last game against the Red Wings.
The Jackets beat the last-place Red Wings with a 2nd-period goal by Cam Atkinson, which would eventually turn out to be the winner. Atkinson leads the team scoring with 27 goals and is also 4th in the league. Picking up the win for Columbus was netminder Sergei Bobrovsky who made his 44th start. The starting goaltender is now 30-14 on the season with a 2.17 GAA and is a huge contributor to the success of the Blue Jackets. The 28-year-old is expected to start at home against the Rangers where he has a record of 18-6 with a 1.92 GAA.
Rangers vs Blue Jackets Predictions
The Rangers are looking to pick up their sixth straight win when king Lundqvist visits Columbus. The game has an important two points on the line, which could even these two teams in the standings if the Rangers were to win. The Coach is leaning towards the underdog road team as the Rangers continue to roll.
The Rangers are 18-7 on the road with Henrik holding a record of 10-5 against Columbus. The Blue Jackets have been the better team this season but their inconsistency has been awful lately as the team struggles to put together consecutive wins. The Jackets stole the first one with a score of 6-4, but the Rangers are coming in with a bit of motivation to steal the points on the road.
