Dallas Stars Team Preview
The Dallas Stars are six points out of a playoff spot with 26 games left holding a season record of 22-24-10. The Stars are hoping to turn it around coming down the final stretch but sit in 5th place in the Central Division. The team is 3-5-2 in the last 10 games but is coming off a solid 5-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes. The home ice win helped break a four-game losing streak as Dallas gets set to hit the road. Dallas has had a season full of struggles trying to get on the right path, it was only last year the team sat at the top with the most points in the West.
The Stars got off to a hot start getting first-period goals from Lindell, Eaves, and McKenzie to lead 3-0 heading into intermission. The rest of the two periods would see both teams score two more goals with Eaves scoring his second of the game. The goaltending has struggled once again this year but Kari Lehtonen managed to pick up the win stopping 22 of 24 shots, moving his record to 12-16-6 on the season. The Stars are expected to start Antti Niemi on Sunday who holds a season record of 10-8-4 with a 3.20 GAA. The Stars continue to search for an answer in goal as the team ranks 27th in goals allowed with 3.16.
Nashville Predators Team Preview
The Nashville Predators are also having a season filled with shortcomings as the team sits 4th in the Central division with a 26-21-8 record. The Predators come into Sunday’s game losing consecutive games and pushing a record of 5-4-1 in their last 10. The team has a hold of the last wild-card spot in the Western Conference but it’s a far cry from their goal of leading the division.
The Predators hosted the Florida Panthers on Saturday dropping the shootout 7-4 with Juuse Saros picking up the loss after relieving Pekka Rinne. The backup Saros will be starting on Sunday against the Stars after Rinne allowed 4 goals on 16 shots. The offense was led by Viktor Arvidsson who netted a hat-trick giving him a total of 18 goals on the season. The forward had 8 shots in the game and has now accumulated 6 points in the last 3 games. The Predators need to start consistently performing; it wasn’t long ago where the team won six out of seven games played.
Stars vs Predators Predictions
The Central division clash will be an interesting game Sunday night as both teams continue to underachieve this season. The Dallas Stars 2-1 leads the season series, as the teams get ready to duke it out in Nashville. Both teams are scheduled to play back-to-back games, but the Stars are the ones that will have to make the trip. The Stars have been awful on the road going 7-15-4 and are just as bad against a divisional opponent with an 8-11-4 record.
The Coach is leaning towards the Nashville Predators to snap their losing skid and avoid Dallas in gaining any points in the standings. The Predators are starting their backup goaltender Juuse Saros but he was solid in his relief performance against the Panthers. The Predators sit in 5th place for shots on goal with 31.6 as the team looks to convert more of those chances on Sunday.
